About Focus Timer

Focus Timer is a free work and break timer for the browser. You set a session length, add the task you are working on, press Start, and get a chime when it is time to take a break. That is the whole idea, and we try to keep it that way.

What the tool does

Focus Timer keeps the controls you need during a session on one page. The current task shows what you are working on, and you can switch between focus, short break and long break timers. The default is 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break, with adjustable durations for smaller tasks. Today’s focus count is a way to look back at focus timers that reached the end.

For practice questions, a session might cover “Answer five questions and review the answers.” For a document, it might cover “Choose the headings.” The usage guide explains these examples and how to handle interruptions.

Design and limitations

Settings and tasks stay in your browser so you can start without an account. The tool does not transfer them to another device or restore them from a server. Keep a separate copy of anything important before clearing the site’s browser data.

Focus Timer does not measure the quality of your work or how focused you are. A timer reaching the end does not automatically complete a task; you decide when the work is done. Notifications cannot run while the page is closed, and device sleep or browser restrictions can delay them.

Your data

Timer settings and tasks are stored locally in your browser and are not sent to our server. No account or login is required. Details of the site’s data handling are in the privacy policy.
